Abstract

In this paper we consider the interaction between turbulence and a cascade of blades with nonzero thickness and camber (typically of nondimensional size O(δ), with δ ≪ 1) in subsonic mean flow. Our approach is to apply our previous theory on interaction between a cascade and a single harmonic vortical gust, and thereby extend earlier work by Hanson and Horan, who considered a cascade of flat plates at zero incidence. The key feature here is the need to develop a cascade response scheme which correctly predicts finite upstream radiation at modal cut-off, and this has necessitated the derivation of a uniform expansion of the earlier work by Peake and Kerschen, who had only considered well cut-on modes.
