Abstract

© 2018 Taylor & Francis Group, London. This paper proposes a method to model an inerter using a commercial multibody dynamics simulation software package (Vampire®). An inerter is a passive mechanical device which produces forces proportional to the relative acceleration between its ends. The inerter model in Vampire® was successfully validated against previously validated Matlab® models, which could allow more realistic simulations to be carried out. The model will be used to evaluate the benefits of inerters in railway vehicle suspensions.
