Conventional bidirectional AC-DC converters are implemented with a boost power factor correction converter and a DC-DC converter, where the energy has to be processed twice with more energy losses, lower efficiency, and lower power density. This paper proposes a single-stage isolated bidirectional AC-DC converter, which can be applied to V2G and grid- batteries energy storage systems. This converter can achieve high power conversion efficiency, high power density and bidirectional power flow. The operating principle, and power transfer characteristics are first introduced. Then, the soft-switching conditions are analyzed and it turns out that this converter can achieve ZVS over wide gain range and wide load variation. Finally, a 500 W prototype is built and tested to verify all proposals and analyses.
