In the existing literature, digital transformation is often conceptualised as an accomplished event; however, conceptualising of digital transformation as something that organisations accomplish does not capture the features of the change process. In this study, we conceptualise of digital transformation as a radical change process that people enact. We investigate digital transformation in the context of construction projects – more specifically, the implementation of building information modelling (BIM). We adopt a practice–theoretical framework to explore what people do when implementing BIM. We conduct a longitudinal case study in combination with secondary data analysis and structure our preliminary findings within a framework of actions (aligning, integrating and reinforcing actions) that shape BIM enacting in projects. We provide insights on how BIM as a digital transformation is legitimated in projects and how guidelines for BIM implementation are translated into action, contributing to the understanding of the dynamics of change. Our findings also aim to contribute to make knowledge on organisational change more actionable
