Abstract

© 2014, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc. All rights reserved. This study applies a low-order jet noise prediction model, which was originally developed and established for chevrons (Depuru Mohan & Dowling < sup > 1 < /sup > ), to microjets. With the novel source description, there is an excellent agreement between our model's far-field noise predictions and measurements for a wide range of frequencies and observer angles. As the model is quick and accurate, a parametric study was performed to investigate the effect of microjets on jet noise. The injected mass flux has a significant impact on jet noise and its optimum is around 0.0004 times the main jet mass flux.
