Abstract

A variety of authors have suggested that inappropriate goal setting, performance measurement and reward systems in industrial organisations can hinder both the implementation of manufacturing strategies and the management of change. As part of a collaborative research project the authors are developing a methodology for assessing the level of congruence between the institutionalised signalling systems (goal setting, performance measurement, information feedback and reward) and the manufacturing missions. This methodology has been described in this paper, and the main frameworks it uses presented and explained.
