All rights reserved.This paper details an exploratory experimental investigation into the influence of applied yaw on the mean and unsteady surface pressure characteristics over an idealized, 1/4–scale, two-wheel landing gear model. Results presented include mean, rms and spectral surface pressure data. The influence of yaw on this configuration was found to predominantly influence the upstream inboard wheel edges and the outboard faces of both the windward and leeside wheels. Subtle regions of flow instability, not identified through mean pressure data alone, were subsequently uncovered through analysis of the rms pressure distributions. Overall, data showed the windward face of the wheel inherited greater flow stability with yaw angle with the leeside wheel, the reverse. Unsteady leeside wheel pressure data also identified the rearmost outboard section of the wheel as a possibly significant noise generation source under these flow conditions.
