© 2016 IEEE. In this work, we present recent advances in guided-wave VLC links enabling high-aggregate link capacities. In particular, the use of equalisation schemes, coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) and high-density waveguide arrays are discussed in the context of VLC systems and recent results are presented. It is shown that the use of simple electronic few-tap pre-equalisers can enable significant improvements in VLC link performance, while record LED-based CWDM 14 Gb/s data transmission over 10 m of POF is demonstrated. Finally, the implementation of CWDM in polymer waveguide systems is discussed and the formation of high-density 2D waveguide arrays enabling board capacity > 1 Tb/s/mm 2 is reported.
