© The authors and ICE Publishing: All rights reserved, 2016. One of the main challenges in infrastructure asset management is the ability to prioritise maintenance activity on portfolio of assets. These maintenance activities consist of reactive repair work and periodic routine maintenance. However, with limited budget available, it becomes quite complex to delay or postpone maintenance activity as it might incur higher impact during the later stages of the life of the asset. Moreover, infrastructure assets are network of assets and consist of multiple stakeholders and longer service life. Therefore, it is essential to understand the value provided by infrastructure assets and use it to prioritise maintenance activities. In this paper, a structured methodology for identify ing and assessing the value of bridges is presented, which is then used to assess the impact of maintenance activity on a particular bridge. A case example involving a portfolio of bridges is presented to illustrate the proposed approach. The essential con-sideration of value is expected to allow organisations in evaluating the impact of short term decisions on long term impact of cost, risk and performance.
